Waukesha County Suicide Prevention Initiative

 

Mission:

The Waukesha County Suicide Prevention Initiative is dedicated to reducing the number of deaths by suicide in Waukesha County, Wisconsin by scaling up evidence-based mental health practices in prevention, stigma reduction, and access to treatment.

Vision:

To improve the economic, social, and overall health across generations in Waukesha County.

WARNING SIGNS OF SUICIDE

  • Talking about wanting to die or kill oneself.

  • Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live.

  • Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain.

  • Talking about being a burden to others.

  • Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs.

  • Acting anxious or agitated; behaving recklessly.

  • Sleeping too much or too little.

  • Withdrawing or feeling isolated.

  • Looking for a way to kill oneself.

These signs may mean that someone is at risk for suicide. Risk is greater if behavior is new or has increased, and if it seems related to a painful event, loss, or change. The more warning signs present the greater the risk.


 

Quarterly Meetings for the Waukesha County Suicide Prevention Initiative

The Waukesha County Suicide Prevention Initiative has quarterly meetings annually on a Tuesday 9:00a-11:00a.

The next meeting is Tuesday, June 16th at 9:00a-11:00am held at The Waukesha County Mental Health Center’s multipurpose room. All are welcome to attend who want to know more about this initiative and help reduce suicides in Waukesha County.
